Praying for kings


No, the First Timothy reading this morning says: “pray for kings and all who are in high positions.”
There’s no weaselling out on that, folks. Do you remember the character Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, who said that if he was a rabbi and someone asked if there was a proper prayer for the Czar of Russia, he would respond, “God bless and keep the Czar… far away from us!”
No, I don’t think that’s quite what God means when we are told to pray for the nations!
