Real Strength

Tears shed for self are tears of weakness, but tears shed for others are a sign of strength.

God has given us two hands, one to receive with and the other to give with.

Courage is contagious. When a brave man takes a stand, the spines of others are often stiffened.

When wealth is lost, nothing is lost. When health is lost, something is lost. When character is lost, all is lost

The incarnation

Billy GrahamThe recurring theme of the Bible is the incarnation of Jesus Christ. The prophets wrote of it, the psalmists sang of it, the apostles rejoiced and built their hopes on it and the Epistles are filled with it. Christ’s coming in the flesh–His invading the world, His identifying Himself with sinful men and women–is the most significant fact of history. All of humanity’s puny accomplishments pale into nothingness when compared to it.

Prayer

Every man or woman whose life has ever counted for God has been a person of prayer. A prayer-less Christian is a powerless Christian. Throughout both the Bible and the history of the church, those who made the greatest impact for God were those who prayed the most.

Grace leads to steak!

A young Billy Graham was driving through a small southern town, when he was pulled over by a policeman and charged with speeding. Graham admitted his guilt, but was told by the officer that he would have to appear in court. At first, the judge did not recognise Graham. He asked, “Guilty, or not guilty?” When Graham pleaded guilty, the judge replied, “That’ll be ten dollars — a dollar for every mile you went over the limit.” Suddenly, the judge recognised the famous minister. “You have violated the law,” he said. “The fine must be paid–but I am going to pay it for you.” He took a ten dollar bill from his own wallet, attached it to the ticket, and then took Graham out and bought him a steak dinner!” Later, Billy Graham said, “That is how God treats repentant sinners! My story is a story of true grace!” If you can understand that simple story, then you can understand this morning’s message.

Use the power

I think it is a waste of tine for us Christians to look for power we don’t intend to use; for might in prayer, unless we pray, for strength to testify, without witnessing; for power unto holiness, without attempting to live a holy life; for grace to suffer unless we take up the cross; for power in service, unless we serve. Someone has said, “God gives dying grace only to the dying”.
