Given the choice, most churches

Given the choice, most churches will choose their traditions over their children every time. The result is that over time children leave the church, creating a crisis later of how to get the younger generation back

In the past, the church

In the past, the church focused on only one conversion. In the future, unbelievers you are leading to Christianity will need to go through three different conversions in sequence: Conversion to you, Conversion to community, Conversion to Christ.

The modern church is moving

The modern church is moving from professional to passionate. In the past, ministry was the realm of the seminary- trained. Not so any more- ministry is not the realm of the professional, it is in the realm of the passionate.

There must be a transition

There must be a transition from seating to sending. The impact of kingdom growth is more important as a measure. Missional churches give themselves away rather than serve their own needs

72% of the un-churched agreed

72% of the un-churched agreed that the church is full of hypocrites. There is something wrong with the church when the world so readily identifies us as hypocrites. 44% indicated that Christians, "get on my nerves". The things we have become and the ways we have learned to live have kept people from embracing the cross. People are tripping over the church on their way to the cross.

If we are going to

If we are going to dwell and plant an urban church we need to realize that the Kingdom of God does not show up when you and your church show up. Actually, it showed up with Jesus. Do not assume that the kingdom of God arrives with your arrival. How arrogant of you. The kingdom of God has already broken in long before you.

Cooperate as much as possible

Cooperate as much as possible on a local level. If we are going to reach the cities for Christ it will not be solitary churches and solitary denominations. Church planters love to claim the uniqueness of their church plant. If in the process of proclaiming the uniqueness of your church plant you denigrate others who are about the same work of the gospel, you should be ashamed. It is a necessity that we be biblically faithful, culturally relevant, and counter-culturally helpful.

We cannot pray for, dwell

We cannot pray for, dwell in, or serve the city well if we do not bring the savior and the gospel of the city which is so needed. How can we be all about the city without the gospel. If you are all for the city without the gospel, you hate the city. We have to "be the gospel", "do the gospel", and "tell the gospel". We have to tell the gospel. Do not miss this. Please do not revert back to the liberal theology that epitomizes so many high churches that we just need to "be the gospel". "Bring Jesus and bring justice, but please do not just bring justice and think you brought Jesus." You will be affirmed when you bring "justice", you will be condemned when you bring "Jesus". We are called to do both, despite the reaction.
