Give the gold, not the dirt

robby-dawkinsIf I’m talking to prostitutes or a drunk on the streets, I ask the Father, “What’s Your heart for this person?” I often tell people going out to minister, “Dig for the gold, not the dirt.” Don’t try to give words revealing sin or failures. The dirt might impress people with my gift of the prophetic, but it doesn’t impact an individual’s life for the best—it just makes them feel exposed. Nobody who has a gold mine says, “Look at all the dirt I’ve found!” What I pull out of my pocket is all the gold nuggets I’ve found. Always protect people’s dignity.

Fire in the fireplace

A description of the prophetic as the “fire” and church government as the “fireplace” gives an excellent illustration of how the two can work together: Fire burning out of control is a threat and a menace, and the fireplace structure with no fire in it is a cold, empty shell. No one wants the prophetic burning out of control, but when the prophetic is embedded in the fireplace structure, it gives warmth and a wholesome glow to everyone. In fact, the fire can burn and rage, but it is still safely contained within that structure.

Someone asked Arthu Blessitt, "Why does God speak to you, but not me?". Arthur replied to the lady, "Did you ever feel an impulese to speak to someone about Jesus that you didn’t know?" She replied, "As a matter of fact I have." Arthur then said to her, "Start obeying that voice and it will become clearer and clearer."
