I think the most helpful way of thinking about evangelism, in response to God’s sovereignty, is the way Paul was told to in Acts 18: stay in this city (Corinth) and keep preaching, because I have many of my people in this city. When you know God is going to save people through you, it stops excessive pressure on you or ranting at others – but it also encourages you to preach, because you know you will be effective. If I knew at half-time that I was going to score the winning goal, I would run for every single ball in the penalty area, because I’d know one of them would be successful. I get the sense Paul was like that in evangelism, and I want to be, too.
