We also teach that as we prophesy in groups, often we each get a piece of the puzzle to give. That piece on its own might not have a lot of meaning but as the words are put together, it is evident that God is orchestrating a complete message.
Team setting helps to identify the flavour of someone’s prophetic gifting. For example: prophetic intercessor, prophetic evangelist, prophetic teacher, prophetic counselor (those with strong words of wisdom).
In Old Testament prophecy, the anointing came upon certain individuals. In the New Testament, the anointing dwells within us. The contrast is seen in the following scriptures: Old Testament: Ezekiel 11: 5 “And the Spirit of the Lord fell upon me…”
New Testament: Acts 2: 4 “And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit…”
Old Testament: Isaiah 61: 1 “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me…”
New Testament: 1 John 2: 27 “The anointing… abides in you…”
A description of the prophetic as the “fire” and church government as the “fireplace” gives an excellent illustration of how the two can work together: Fire burning out of control is a threat and a menace, and the fireplace structure with no fire in it is a cold, empty shell. No one wants the prophetic burning out of control, but when the prophetic is embedded in the fireplace structure, it gives warmth and a wholesome glow to everyone. In fact, the fire can burn and rage, but it is still safely contained within that structure.
