“I’ve been thinking about something lately,” he said. “So much of the Christian prayer life consists of asking God for things. So what are we going to pray about when there’s no more pain and sin and suffering?” That messed me up. I think most Christians, myself in particular, see God mostly as a needs-and-wants fulfillment service. In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve literally had no needs. When we get to heaven, we’ll have everything we need. We were created to walk and talk with God, not just ask Him to fix everything that’s wrong with the world. Prayer wasn’t created as a way to tell God our problems—He already knows them anyway. Humans were created simply to be with their Father.
