The gospel only appears foolish to the non Christian worldview, because that worldview is itself a topsy-turvy human miscalculation. Eve was deceived when she ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and her children ave eaten and been deceived ever since. The gospel appears foolish to sinful humans because it is God’s true wisdom, the ultimate ideal for which Socrates and Plato searched in vain.
