Carol Zaleski has articulated a nice distinction about the ways in which people think about heaven. “Some depictions of heaven,” she writes. “are strongly theocentric, portraying the blessed as caught up in an endless rapture of adoration; others are sociable and anthropocentric. But a more adequate picture would be theocentric and anthropocentric at once.
